When the Antic bike is brand new or hasn’t been ridden much, the in-app range estimate will not be accurate.
As you continue riding and put more miles on it, the estimate will start to calibrate based on your riding style, terrain, acceleration habits, and weight. After a few full rides, you should see a more accurate and consistent range estimate. It just needs more real-world data to refine the estimate.
Keep riding it normally, and you should see that number adjust accordingly. If it continues to have similar issues, let us know, and we can look into this further.
In general, here are some of the largest culprits that can affect the total range:
- Terrain- The best surface to ride on is pavement for the maximum range. Riding through tough terrain like grass or loose dirt requires more energy and will reduce your total range. We love riding the Antic off-road, but it is important to know that it cannot achieve the same range on these surfaces
- Air Pressure- The tire performs best at 35psi for the front tire and 20psi for the rear motor tire. We recommend if you notice a change in performance, you should check the pressure of your tires to make sure it is inflated properly as the tire pressure can change over time if the tire develops any leaks.
- Riding and inclines- Similar to riding through loose terrain, riding up steep inclines requires more energy and can drain the Antic faster than flat ground. Although the bike has regenerative braking, it does not recharge the same amount of power used to climb hills, so going through a hilly area can affect your range, as can rapidly accelerating and braking through your ride.
- Rider Carry Weight- As the Antic has to propel the rider and anything they are carrying, the higher the carry weight, the more power it takes to propel it. The closer the combined weight of the rider and anything they are carrying is to the weight limit on the bike the more likely it is to affect the total range of the bike.
- Wheelie Mode - Utilizing wheelie mode will also decrease range as the bike has to use more energy to balance the rider.
If you have concerns that you are not achieving the maximum range, we recommend using the following parameters to test the total range of the bike:
- Check each tire's air pressure
- Find a relatively flat route you can ride that is on pavement
- Attempt to ride at a steady speed higher than 5 MPH to allow efficient power use
- Minimize any additional weight carried during the ride
If you are still exhibiting problems with range, please send a diagnostic at the end of your ride and contact support so we can look further into your concerns.
Below are instructions on how to send diagnostics:
- Connect to the app with a smart device through the “My rides” page.
- Be sure your app has access to Wi-Fi.
- Once connected, click on the gear icon to access the bike stats.
- When you scroll to the bottom of the page, you will see a banner reading “DIAGNOSTICS”.
- Please tap the banner, then “SEND DIAGNOSTICS” and it will give you an option to comment on the diagnostics.
- Please type a comment with your full name, email address, and bike serial number.
